PR Review Queue Board

Track pull requests from open to merged with an agent-ready review queue

The PR Review Queue Board gives engineering teams and AI reviewer agents a clear, shared view of every pull request's status. Instead of scanning multiple repos or chat threads, reviewers work through a single kanban board with columns for triage, active review, requested changes, approval, and merge. Because the board is exposed through Kanboard's MCP server, an agent can list incoming PRs, pull task details, and move tasks between columns automatically, while human reviewers use the same board through the web app or macOS app. This template is preloaded with realistic sample tasks so you can see exactly how a review queue should flow from the moment a PR opens to the moment it merges.

How to run this board

Step 1

New pull requests land in Incoming PRs as soon as they're opened, ready for triage.

Step 2

A reviewer or agent moves a PR to In Review and pulls the task details before inspecting the code.

Step 3

If issues are found, the task moves to Changes Requested with review notes logged via update_task; once fixed, it moves back to In Review.

Step 4

When the PR passes review, it moves to Approved to signal it's ready to merge.

Step 5

After merging, the task is moved to Merged, keeping a record of completed reviews on the board.

AI agent usage

Run it with AI agents

Open MCP setup

This template lets an AI reviewer agent or human maintainer manage pull requests through Kanboard's MCP server. The agent uses list_tasks and get_task to fetch PRs awaiting review, applies review criteria, then calls move_task to advance PRs through the columns as they pass checks, get feedback, or get merged, keeping the board a live source of truth for review status.

# PR Review Queue Board
Board columns: Incoming PRs, In Review, Changes Requested, Approved, Merged.
Agents connecting via MCP (https://kanboard.io/api/mcp) should: 1) call list_tasks on 'Incoming PRs' to find unreviewed pull requests; 2) use get_task to pull PR description/details before reviewing; 3) call move_task to shift a task to 'In Review' when starting, 'Changes Requested' if issues are found, 'Approved' when review passes, or 'Merged' after merge completes; 4) use update_task to log reviewer comments in the task description field. Never delete_task unless a PR is closed without merging.
List all pull requests sitting in the Incoming PRs column that haven't been touched in 2 days.
Move PR #482 'Fix auth token refresh bug' from In Review to Changes Requested and add a note about the missing unit tests.
Show me every task currently in the Approved column so I know what's ready to merge today.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this PR Review Queue Board on the free plan?

Yes, the free plan supports 1 project and up to 25 tasks, which comfortably fits this 5-column template with its sample tasks. If your team reviews more than 25 PRs at once, upgrade to Pro for $12/mo or $96/yr.

Can an AI agent manage this board automatically?

Yes, the board is designed to work with Kanboard's MCP server. An agent can call list_tasks and get_task to review PR details, then use move_task to shift pull requests between columns like In Review and Approved as review status changes.

How do I customize the columns for my team's review process?

You can rename or add columns directly on the kanban board, as long as you stay within the 3-6 column range. Keep column names consistent with any AGENTS.md file so agents reference the correct workflow stages.

Does this template support keyboard shortcuts and the command palette?

Yes, this board works like any other Kanboard project, so you can use keyboard shortcuts and the command palette to quickly create, move, and search tasks without leaving the keyboard.

What happens if a PR fails review multiple times?

Move the task back and forth between In Review and Changes Requested as needed. Each move_task call updates the task's column, and you can use update_task to log reviewer comments in the task description each round.

Can I access this board from outside the web app?

Yes, Kanboard offers a REST API and a macOS app in addition to the web interface and MCP server, so you can integrate PR review tracking into other tools or check the queue from your desktop.
